Round of 64: Defeated Dana Guzman of Peru, current junior ITF #18, class of 2021, no college commitment, might be turning pro.
Round of 32: Defeated Diana Shnaider of Russia, class of 2022, current ITF #5.
Round of 16: Defeated #9 seed Elizabeth Mandlik, class of 2019, 2 years older, #1 blue chip. daughter of former pro Hana Mandlikova who bypassed college for pro; WTA ranking high of 506 was achieved in 2019.
QFs: Defeated #14 seed Oksana Selekhmeteva of Russia, class of 2021, current ITF #10, 7-6(7-3), 6-4.
SFs: Lost to Sada Nahimana of Burundi, almost certain to play #1 for NCSU next year, listed as class of 2020 at TRN but age 20 at ITF; has aged out of juniors and is playing well in WTA events.
Melodie made it to the SFs in doubles at the same tournament.
It is interesting to see the progression of Elaine Chervinsky. August, 2020, lost to #1 blue chip Alexandra Yepifanova (Stanford commit) 6-1, 6-0; as I noted in my previous post, in March of 2021 she beat Alexandra in 3 sets. Her two highest quality wins are in March of 2021.
