IMO, athletes have a duty to the press. It's a symbiotic ...

relationship. They both need each other. Does the sports media overdo it? Absolutely. However, she should try to do the most basic of media requests.

Do I believe Osaka is hurting mentally? Yes. It's obvious she doesn't like the spotlight. Now put the hopes of the Japanese and African Americans (note: she took the mantle from Serena) ... along with the current environment of race on a young shy 20+ year old ... that's a lot for anyone.

I'm glad she took some time off. She seems genuinely distressed. While I understand tennis' insistance for access to the media ... all four grand slams didn't need to gang up on her. That was a bad look.

They should find some compromise in the future. I don't believe it's a stunt. Tennis should try to help her. In a generation where youngsters are dying for any media exposure, there will be plenty of other personalities to take her place.

On a side note, Federer withdraws by listening to his body. Is he considered weak too?
