It just seems odd not to use a scholarship on them...


I know that's the standard, but football isn't exactly forward-thinking. We blow scholarships on random position players that don't pan out all the time, why not a specialist? Is there a bias toward them not being "real football players"? Probably. Is there a single special teams coach in college or pros that's a former specialist? I don't know, but doubtful.

Like, it's all fun and games until you have a mid-October game you really need to hit a 43-yard FG and you haven't invested anything in it, then you give a Bobby Bowden "wha' happened" look at the camera and throw the specialist under the bus.

Hey, but maybe they can get some sweet NIL $100's and all will be good. Everyone loves kickers, right?
