Thanks for the advice. In first place have been around, used and

owned guns all my life. Hunted with father and cousins since I was 12. Even taught wife to shoot.
Secondly , I have been called a lot of things but never a hot head. I am more prone to defuse a situation than to escalate it. As a business owner and upper management in local government I learned those skills.
Now I never thought I would see this country where it is now. COVID or not, shortages of many items have been rampant and even the main stream media speaks of more probable. If not shortages then price increases, a result of shortages, exacerbate tensions. Again only look to groceries and lumber.
It’s not only on a consumer level. An electrician friend of mine has to drive 60 + miles for material to run his business.
Closer to home, the contractor remodeling our master bath tells the same story in Charlottesville.
So, I am far from being an alarmist. I prefer it being called a realist. And we keep food for 30-60 days and enough gas to get us in and out for a month or so. But full on prepping as you suggest is not something I am prepared to do.
I have always lived outside of urban areas so I can choose when to interact in those urban areas. And now with COVID not dominating my decisions we are doing more in town and socially.
I have friends with a carry permit who carry a lot as well as friends who hardly ever carry. It has always been a personal decision for them and hasn’t affected our friendship.
If the social landscape I have described develops, my decision to carry would be as a deterrent to defuse situations, rather than escalate. My last thought would be to go O K Corral at a grocery store or gas station. Other than that situation the gun would be at home or in glove compartment.
So thanks for the Internet drive by analysis. I’ll take it to heart.
