My dad, even a few days before he died, was still telling me stories about


growing up in Richmond in the 1920s and 30s, that he hadn't told me before. He couldn't remember things like a conversation he had with the nurse the day before, but he could remember with great specificity people and events from his childhood.

(I will say his dementia wasn't severe, before congestive heart failure and its sequelae, primarily chronic kidney failure, killed him at age 95, but it was definitely present and worsening.)
