Then 5-7, 4-5; comeback makes 5-7, 7-5

Emma held by taking something off the first serve. But then her opponent finally held, and broke Emma in a close game.

Serving for the match at 7-5, 5-4, 40-30, match point, Zacarias hit a great inside-out forehand (her weapon is the forehand) to the backhand corner. Emma could barely stab at it and float a short ball over the net. Zacarias moved in for the sitter, Emma moved right and Zacarias hit it behind Emma ... just long. She could have pushed it over the net for the match. After several deuces, Emma broke.

By the way, Marcela Zacarias of Mexico is 8 years older than Emma. She bypassed college for pro tennis 9 years ago. She had a good record at tennisrecruiting.net; 8-3 vs. blue chips, with 2 of the 3 losses against Taylor Townsend, and some good wins (e.g. over #2 blue chip and Georgia star Lauren Herring).
