First of all, we keep plenty of talent in state.

Cuomo, Donohoe, Kulp, Keating, Harter, Knapp on the women's side

Nichols, Conway, Gyenis, Storch for the men.
These are current or future athletes and I probably missed a few.

Most of these recruits are top 50 recruits, so not all talent is leaving the state.
I don't know of any grudges or issues from local coaches against Desorbo. Someone else may have some insight on this.

What I do know is that for women, scholarship money is quite abundant. Even if you are not a Curzan level swimmer, you are going to get an exceptional amount of money at most schools if you are talented and fill a need. So the cost of "in-state" education for women's swimming isn't really a big draw.
I also consider the fact that swimming is a somewhat wealthy sport. Not to say that all swimmers have wealthy parents, but based on my experience when I swam, swimming families are usually pretty well off and can make finances happen if they need to pay 60%+ of the remaining tuition.
So you take money out of the equation, top tier women's swimmers generally have their pick of where they want to go. Coach, team dynamics, academics, etc. all come into play. DeSorbo runs a different type of program than Meehan does in the energy, the way he coaches, etc. and it may just come down to something as simple as that.

So I don't see any problem or issue with kids leaving the state. We have poached top tier talent from all across the USA while still keeping a decent amount of local kids, local. This will only get better as DeSorbo has more time to prove himself and the program.
