Rule of thumb is “policy follows the vehicle, not the driver”

My State Farm policies do not cover if I wreck or damage a rental car or a friend’s car I have borrowed. On the other hand, if I lend you my vehicle, my policy covers my vehicle while you are driving it.

That’s the reason I use a credit card with rental car coverage whenever I travel.
