The are many hundreds of companies.

Internship is only one jellybean in the jar- it makes sense to like the red ones (analog to an industry) but not to consider one of the red ones special. If one company interests her- others will as well. That said, if she is not also interested in the company with the internship offer, she should not take it or figure out how to get interested. In the end, the company makes a lot less difference than people think- it is the industry, the work and your manager and peers that make all the difference. She should develop a sizeable list of companies that she would be happy to work for.

As for the internship company-
1. If they don’t like her, they would write a letter
2. If they do like her, they will write a letter. And, if they like you most people will help the kid get a job in the industry. Maybe even sending a friend a note saying- “check out this person”. Companies are just people and if you have a friend, they will do friend things for you.
3. This is why people don’t really ask for letters of recommendation unless they come from someone very senior.
So, don’t worry about the letter of recommendation. Do good work and be able to talk about it in an interview.

My thoughts anyway.
