I've now read this a bit closer, and it's more of an argument against ...
... football being the driver in realignment talks.
That annoys me, too, but I think it's a fact of life. Power conferences demanding more money from the tourney, or seceding form the tourney, won't solve that problem.
I do agree that perhaps the power conferences could be a bit smarter about grabbing some incremental revenue, but I think Dixon and Huggins are misplacing their frustration.
They're getting jerked around by football decisions because college football is a more popular sport currently, not because major college hoops isn't extracting enough value from the NCAA tourney. At least, IMO.
As I said earlier, I think the obvious answer is to add another tourney, because bettors love tourneys, and now more than ever, sports should consider bettors as one of their main stakeholders.
How about a Christmas tourney? Whatever Eight power 6 teams played the best in the noncon season get invited to a three-day tourney in Vegas or some other warm-ish destination to settle who won the non-con. Just spitballing, but I do think college hoops leaves money on the table during that time of year.
