No. He was very good, but 1500 hits is really pushing it for a HOFer.

If he had stayed at SS at FSU, he would still be playing.

Still amazing that he won TWO Cape Cod League Championships, starting at 2 different positions: SS after his first year, C after his second. (Same team: Y-D Red Sox.)

He was possibly the best pure college hitter I've ever seen; close call between him and Wieters.

But 1500 hits IMO is not enough to get him in.

FWIW, Baseball lists the following as his closest comps -- all good players, but none of them are in the HOF. He compares well to Javy Lopez (Braves, not UVA), who was a great hitting catcher. Varitek was good too, but DEFINITELY not a HOFer -- average 50 points below Posey, and he played 4 years longer than Posey but finished with only 1300 hits.
