No. It's subpar HS recruiting over the past 4 classes
Of the eight scholarship players who were recruited as 1st years, I think that only three were offered early or reasonably early. The other five players were late additions after the plan A and plan B targets committed elsewhere. It's just not good enough: three players over four years.
The past two years, great transfers in and leftovers from prior classes made up for the HS recruiting misses. That does not seem to be the case this year. Great class coming in next year. But, it is the first one in five years.
I don't know the coaches, but would be curious as to why folks think that the coaches fared poorly over that four-year stretch. It takes certain attributes to close a sale. Perhaps, it's as simple as that: they can't sell. If they were in business, they would be great engineers or product managers, but couldn't cut it in sales.
