Inaki Montes got into the main draw based on ranking and upset #8 seed and UFlorida #1 Duarte Vale, 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 before losing in the second round.
Chris Rodesch had to qualify by winning two matches against players seeded in the qualifying rounds. He beat #4 qualifying seed Cleeve Harper of Canada 6-0, 6-1 and then beat #11 seed Eric Morris (former UDenver player) 6-0, 6-2. Then in the main draw he beat Bruno Kuzuhara (current #1 blue chip from California) 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(3) and then beat Bolivian Juan Carlos Aguilar (former #3 Texas A&M player, just graduated) 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Now he has to play #2 seed Zachary Svajda (Kalamazoo champion a couple of years ago who then turned pro) in the QFs.
