Pepperdine will be one of the title contenders

Along with UVA, UNC, Duke, Texas, OU.

Teams that could have stayed close to home and been the #2 seed at Pepperdine include UCLA and USC. But they schedule Pepperdine every year, sometimes twice. That's another factor in these choices.
