What's this?

The style is not just conducive to but encouraging of more users.

If you have the few threads with recent posts bumped to the top, the few people who are interested in those topics will keep posting, carrying on a long conversation that most other don't care as much about. The board then gets stale for all those not in those few threads.

Sure, topics scroll off rather quickly sometimes, but if it is of real interest, someone else brings it up again. You get different people with different takes more often and the board does not get nearly as stale nearly as quickly.
