We are not sad! Ranters please take notice!

From the men's team side, the state of UVA swimming is only sad if you are living in the past and have no connection to the current team.

Appreciate the posts that note that many teams are bringing in foreign swimmers at the last minute-- some of whom are SENIORS or have a history of challenging issues. But, this is the new state of swimming, unlike 1983 or 1993 or even 2013, and not the only issue. Everyone else is getting faster.

We have a small group of 3rd and 4th years, including 4 remaining seniors who were recruited by Dino and only 2 juniors, all of whom were expecting to sign on to an ACC champ team. Think about how they must feel.
Times change, as recent posts have noted. Those swimmers who chose to stay have contributed a lot to the team in a time of the most turbulent transition of the team in the last 40 -- yes, 40! years. In 2013-14, we lost recruits, key relay members, and all but one of our established NCAA scorers, and almost ALL visible alumni support, including most of the people on this chat group, when Dino left. Guess how many alumni attended the ACC meet this year? Zero.
And how many last year?
The swimmers and recent alumni, as well as the head of the alumni group, have reached out. Echoes, as far as the swimmers know. Except for the class of 2014. Some behind the curtain support remains, but the swimmers don't see that.
NC state has a cheering section of at least 150 people. We have 25. All family members. Were you there?
Many people in this chat group chide us for having no team backbone. If you would like to help this, please come out and support us.
Quinn swam almost every event during his 4 years except breaststroke -- BOTH fly and back on the A medley relays and all of the free relays, when we had no others. Whatever the team needed, he did.
"Who is Lockman" was one of the first posts of the 2013-2014 seasons. Walked on in May 2013 when none of you knew who he was.
Denning and Leasure provided much team leadership in the vacuum of the last 3 years despite heavy academic loads.
So, if you want to complain, please contact the coaches or the athletic department, or, if you are alumni, your classmates.
Thanks to those of you who have some understanding-- I enjoy your comments and perspective.
None of our swimmers, except for perhaps our Olympic medal winners, are doing this professionally,
For those of you who don't understand this, please consider the tone of your comments as you post.
Many people, including parents and alumni, read your comments-- just like recruits read SwimSwam, who one of you identified as the "National Enquirer of Swimming" a couple of years ago. Please don't become that.

With much respect, I hope that your interest will translate into action. Times will continue to change, and I hope that you can be a part of that, beyond just being an observer.
Go Hoos!
