True, but most schools are able to absorb it with less impact...

I'm not in a tizzy; as you say, this stuff happens no matter who you are and what you do, and it's important to keep things in perspective.

But having said that, the reality is that it's much harder for this program, at this time, to shrug it off out of hand. With Word in particular, this was a promising young player -- a kid with the kind of size, speed and nose for the ball this defense needs at linebacker -- at a position that needs depth. And the fact that he's a legacy makes it hurt that much worse.

Will losing these two players be the difference between a successful 2017 (however you define that) and an unsuccessful one? Unlikely. But are they kinds of players we want and need, to get where we want to go? Would we have been a deeper and more talented roster with them still on board than we'll be without them? Yes.

That's not good.
