Note on men's tennis

As I posted on the men's tennis board, the position that Brian Boland accepted at the USTA paid one million dollars a year recently. I don't know yet what salary Coach Boland has accepted, but no college tennis program pays a coach anywhere near half that much. His parents are moving to Florida, and no doubt that played some role in his decision, but it is unwarranted speculation to say that maybe he is leaving because he is dissatisfied with the A.D. The A.D. is retiring soon, fundraising is sufficient to build a new outdoor tennis complex at the Boar's Head that will be sufficient to host the NCAA tournament and will be superior to our current facility, which will still be a great practice facility. The indoor facilities at Boar's Head are the BEST in the country for a college tennis program, and UVa routinely hosts the National Team Indoor event which brings good P.R. to the program. But when someone offers you 3-6 times your current salary for one of the most prestigious tennis positions in the entire country, your parents being nearby is a bonus but no mysterious explanations are needed for why you took the offer.

When someone offers you a million dollars a year and you turn it down to remain with your current one-sixth-as-much salary, please come back and post the details for all of us to learn from.
