To my knowledge, Florida's Jeremy Foley is the only AD...

in NCAA history to oversee both football and men's basketball winning multiple titles. However, the wolves were after him when he hung on to Will Muschamp for another year before his ouster.

I've just reached the point of blocking out the knuckleheads on social media attempting to direct how the administration or coaches run the program. Talk to anyone as a student or a fan during that time period at Florida and they were in absolute heaven as those national championships overlapped with both sports.

Anyone who has a clue about UVA athletics knows the shortcomings of Littlepage's predecessors, Holland and Copeland. Littlepage has been far from perfect, but his role is a key factor in why UVA is among the top athletic programs each year since '02 in the ACC and nationally. Some may choose to overlook that it was Littlepage who figured out how to execute the financing for a fully funded athletic program after the alumni soundly rejected the Callahan Task Force recommendation to tier sports funding. Just imagine if Callahan's Task Force recommendations had gone into effect, how many of today's coaches would not be at UVA.

We have witnessed, national champions (from memory) during the Littlepage era: women's lax (1), men's lax (3), men's soccer (2), women's rowing (2), men's tennis (3) and baseball (1). Men's basketball, wrestling, track/field, cross country, golf, etc., have all performed well during the Littlepage tenure.

I get the reality of those who are not alums locked in on football or basketball only success. But it's mind boggling how well an all-sports program has performed under Littlepage -- after the alumni rescued it for full scholarships in '02 -- to produce the best performance of UVA athletics over any period in school history. And now I must read posts from alums about "political correctness!"

As someone who went to school in the mid-to-late '70s, I get the mindset. However, anyone who is scoring this based upon the metrics, it is a no-brainer that Littlepage has performed his job at an above competent and successful level. Should football have been managed more effectively? Absolutely!!

But it wasn't Littlepage's decision to overpay Groh and give him a guaranteed contract that locked in the school (see Casteen). Littlepage didn't give Gillen an undeserving contract, but he did negotiate a reduction in terms.

Craig's approach at times frustrates me. But it is not as if he is some incompetent administrator. Look at the sports that have thrived under Craig's leadership. I believe history will paint a very favorable picture of him. We might begin to see that UVA's attitude of sports competitiveness actually began when President Frank Hereford hired Dick Schultz as AD and Littlepage took success of the entire athletic department to another level.!!
