As much as I think it is easier to recruit the 4-3 in college and find

guys who can make it work, I agree with your assessment. For all of the issues Groh had, defense was really not one of them. I know read option killed us in that Maryland game, and periodically we would play further off a receiver than I would have liked, but we had some really good defensive efforts in his time here. I remember shutting down Larry Fitzgerald and (for upwards of three quarters) Michael Crabtree. We played good defense on Megatron in two straight games I believe. Greg Jennings ate us for lunch but Al Groh had good defenses. There, I said it. The 3-4 is tough to recruit to, but it CAN work, and work well.

Not saying it WILL here, but it definitely can.
