Maybe I am the dumb one here, but I will slightly threadjack this with my

situation at home. If I hook up wired to my modem I can get something like 60Mb download speed,

BUT, my middle-aged N300 Netgear wireless router (which is theoretically capable of 300Mb?) limits me to upper 20s in download speed.

I was under the impression I need to get a new, more expensive wireless router (approx $130-150?) to get my speeds up. Is that true?

Truth be known I used to be much more network literate, but lack of involvement in recent years has me feeling left behind. It is amazing how quickly technology evolves.
