We owned one from 2008-2015 and 90k miles

-- Reliable (*but see below)
-- Cavernous interior room
-- Handled like a much smaller car -- Mazda really has a knack for making big cars feel sporty
-- Plenty of power, but gas mileage maxed out at 23mpg highway

The asterisk is that, at around 90k miles, the car blew a water pump in the middle of Glenwood Canyon in Colorado (little or no shoulder), stranding me and family. The water pump replacement is a drop-the-engine exercise. It is also a known failure point for these cars (the engine was originally sourced from Ford and modified by Mazda). The water pumps usually give up the ghost without much warning and their being built into the engine block means pump failures toss coolant into the engine. Ours needed a new engine.

We sold it shortly after the repair in part because we wanted something new but also because our dealer screwed up the repair work and we lost confidence in the car itself.

I would still recommend it as I don't get the sense this is a frequent issue.
