Just a guess, but I suspect he's altered his swing

Last year, I read reports that the velocity off his bat was very high, perhaps among the highest in MLB, but that the angle at which the balls were coming off his bat was usually too low, leading to a lot of low line drives and ground balls that ended up being outs. So, great and solid contact with poor results.

Like I say, just a guess, but I know he was aware of the issue, and he may have worked on his swing to get a better angle off the bat.
