LOL, he's had about the least traditional path of any D1 player

He didn't pick up a racquet until 7th grade and he only did that so that he could play for his middle school team- he played #5 for Brevard Middle School his 7th grade year. Most of his competitors in junior tennis started between age 2 and 8. He did play/train at least 6 days a week from that point on. We live in a small mountain town with few training partners/coaches but he did have a couple of key coaches along the way and a lot of grit to keep training. There were long periods of time in which we were driving 2 hours round trips 3x per week for training opportunities. We traveled to tourneys twice a month. It is a very expensive sport- I figure I spent at least $25m per year for his tennis and that's conservative. I frankly would not recommend trying to raise a D1 tennis player unless you are a glutton and live close to a serious training center where there are a lot of kids and coaches. It is not a sport for the faint of heart or the uncommitted. We are not following the same path with my two younger children if that gives you any idea of how difficult it is
