I did not even notice that his strokes are weird. These days

there is lot of differences in strokes.Nadal hits it really weird, but he is one of the greatest. Way back in my early days (I started playing about age 6 with my dad) especially with wooden racquets and regular nylon strings it was all about hitting flat or with a little slice with an eastern grip forehand and a one handed backhand with slice to keep the ball low. I still play that way, but it is all doubles for me these days

These days there is so much more spin and power available with the racquet and string technology, I am not even sure how you teach young kids to properly hit a tennis ball especially with those low bounce balls they start with and play until they are 13. I think Some advanced 12 year old tourneys use regular balls, but most play those green dot balls at 12..

I have yet to be convinced that these low bounce balls are the best way to learn tennis, especially for kids that are athletic, coordinated and can run.
