Fair enough....however,

I don't think Ty has to play 32 minutes a game to be the main point guard and a force. I can see 28 minutes a game for him - perhaps even 30. But, you are right, that is a significant step up in minutes played, and I can see how casual outsiders would think it is a reasonable question.

Some points of note: In last 5 games of the season, he averaged 20.6 minutes (in the 5 games prior to that, he averaged 16.2 minutes). It is good to point out that come tournament time (4 post-season games in the last five games), his minutes increased. So, he played more when the games mattered more.

By the way, despite not having Wilkins (which, I think was the main reason we faltered at the end of last year), he did pretty well. In the last four games, he totaled 11 assists to 4 turnovers. Low turnovers is important to coach. He also was a strong rebounder as he brought in a total of 18 rebounds (4.5/game) despite playing about half the game.

I don't think people on this board view Ty as the question mark. We expect solid, perhaps great, play from him. We are confident he'll step up. He wasn't foul prone. He didn't shy away from the spotlight. His minutes increased come tournament time. He limited his turnovers. And, he passes the eye test. Oh, and he shot 47% including 40% from 3-point range as a first year. Not bad.

All that, and we sometimes forget he was coming off a hip injury and I think a fair number of people expected him to redshirt last year.
