The time when college defenses learn to stop the spread cannot come fast

Part of it is the atrocious rules in college. Blocking down field three yards? How can anyone have reads, when a lineman can go three yards down field on a pass play? Same with blocking during a pass as long as it is thrown behind the LOS.

And quit letting offenses run plays in seconds. Just because the O wants to run a play is no reason the officials have to throw the ball around and set it ready for play so quickly. It is getting so offenses run a quick hitter on first down, so everyone is practically in place for the pass on second down. Give both teams time to get set and the officials get ready.

In my day, if I threw the ball to an official as soon as I was tackled, I'd get flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. I can still hear the refs yelling -- Let the ball lie after we were tackled.
