Re: I should have mentioned Maloney as a factor on the 2nd midfield line.

Has Lars experimented with inverting one of the 1st line middies in the set offense? Reading this excellent preview leads me to think we’ve got a very good chance to establish a pure crease attackman, & that’d obviously be Kraus. D’Amario seemed most comfortable facing the cage & I recall Laviano being very quick but smaller (unless he had one heck of a growth spurt since 11th grade).

With 3 really outstanding middies being the strength of the team, it will get very congested in front of the cage & inverting 1 keeps a pole stuck behind GLE. If a righty pole gets tied off on Conrad, Aitken or Moore, that would raise the chances that a lefty is hung out off ball to switch on D’Amario, which would give D’Amario more space& he can really shoot. If not the switch is coming across from Kraus, more space for him with (hopefully) his back to the cage to take a pass if D’Amario doesn’t shoot. That would drive Breschi & other ACC staffs nuts all day long. You can’t put a shortie on one of our 1st line middies behind GLE & there just isn’t any easy way to play slide help against it either.

I’d be concerned about burning out those middies in both ends, but as an asset each of those middies can command burning the other team’s best on ball pole. Pretty much all the ACC rivals have at least one excellent on ball pole. The only question is, who plays the other guy’s 1. Right now it would seem opponensts would consider our 1 to be Kraus, and if he winds up being guarded in front & needs to carry the ball more against their 1. But if Conrad, Aitken & Moore alternate playing inverted in set offense, opponenents would have to put their 1 on an island behind GLE, so their 2 plays our 1 (Kraus).
