He must have had a good chunk of $$ thrown his way

In my opinion if you aren't already making deep runs into multiple Futures/Challengers then you have no business going pro at that age unless you have no desire to attend school or someone is willing to foot the bill to pay your expenses for several years.

He's won 0 main draw pro singles matches this year and only won 4 overall with those coming last November in Costa Rica when most guys had probably already shut it down for the year.

He's had some ok results at junior grand slams but nothing that jumps out and says he has top 100 potential.

Maybe he's trying to get ahead of the changes coming in 2019 and thinks this is his best path to make it.

Best of luck to him but I don't see him making a living playing on the pro tour.
