I'd put him #2 behind Pedro

Halladay's numbers during his peak (2002-11) are insane. 170-75, 2.97 ERA, 148 ERA+, 1.11 WHIP, 4.57 K/BB, 63 CG, 18 shutouts, 2194.2 innings, 303 starts.

For a little perspective:
- There are five active pitchers with 170 wins
- Among active qualified pitchers, only Kershaw has an ERA under 3
- There are five active pitchers with a WHIP under 1.11 (Scherzer is at 1.12)
- Among active qualified pitchers, only Sale and Kluber have K/BB ratios over 4.57 (Strasburg is at 4.55)

Now the truly mind-blowing numbers. Among active pitchers:
- No one has more than 38 complete games (Sabathia)
- No one has more than 15 shutouts (Kershaw)
- Only 10 pitchers who were active last season have thrown 2194.2 innings in their careers (including Bronson Arroyo, who retired)
- Only 14 pitchers who were active last season have 303 starts in their careers (including Arroyo and Matt Cain, who retired)

Halladay was beyond great for a decade. He should have been a first-ballot HOFer before this week, but you never know how some of the old-timer "Wins above all" voters would have voted. And he did fall off in a hurry (understandably - look at those inning totals).

I imagine some of those who were on the fence or who weren't going to vote for him will now do it when he's eligible in 2019, and he'll cruise in for what will be the saddest induction in some time. I hope his family doesn't have to sit through a few years of 65-percent vote totals because of the voters who are stupid about first-ballot guys and "This guy gets in before that guy."
