Re: I have been hoping the verbal

You guys make the 2 universally true early recruiting punch points:

1. All 14-15 year old kids & their lacrosse parents have panic driven appetites,
2. Coaches feast on this knowing they had ‘outs’ to alter the verbal commitments later in the process.

I believe there is also a third understated punch factor; the negative weights effect ER had on men’s lacrosse programs within their institution. For Starsia, the early recruiting institutional damages were every bit as material as losing records in his last 3 years, particularly with admissions & Dean of Students officers who were taken to sheds over the spectacle of kids being awarded spots at a selective university with no high school academic records.

The way I see it is this year (the 2017s high school class) is the beginning of a 3-year throughput process. Lars isn’t the only coach dealing with an inventory of middle school lacrosse legends that didn’t physically or technically season with a strong developmental trajectory throughout high school.

I think what will distinguish D1 coaching staffs in the next 3 seasons moreso than all else is tactical player development & smartly working the transfer markets. More than ever before coaches are going to need to deal with goalies who lived off baiting shooters in high school because they could where same goalies hitch or let their hands drift. It will also mean literally stripping poles down, rebuilding their footwork & teaching them leverage for the first time. The general malaise of ER was ongoing development was less emphasized. The smart thing will be to redshirt guys at those positions as much as possible to correct their technicals. Another factor is early recruiting prejudiced a lot of kids who really developed later & then matriculated to D3 or MCLA programs. Maybe those kids will be happy in those environments, particularly if they’re at great academic schools, but sometimes not. All D1 NCAA staffs will be spending more time than they’d planned or imagined evaluating transfers, because they’d be fools not to.
