Curious - do you not agree that international soccer is a young man's game?

In club soccer, you can get away with capping older players. You can rest them accordingly AND teams train all year round. Guile and knowing one's tendencies are far more a factor versus international soccer.

In international soccer, it's a mix mash of talent with little time to practice. I believe physicality and individual skill are more impactful than teamwork and guile (though you need that too). With the quick turn around in tournaments, abundant energy and recovery are critical. Plus, IMO, older dogs are tougher to teach new tricks. It's probably takes longer to find chemistry.

I don't know if I'm correct ... but I noticed that it's rare to see older teams do well in international tournaments.
