Went by to check out stadium construction Saturday morning

RMC Events guy was there locking up the track and he let me in to take a few pictures on top of the "ACC" hill. Construction crew was there working (and RMC guy said they worked all day on Friday as well. Bleachers are down in left field and a few more trees have been moved. They will be building out the visitor bullpen and re-configuring all the LF bleachers while actually adding more seats. This work will allow the adding of 3rd baseline chair back seats where the former UVA bullpen currently sets.

Friday's work seemed to be centering on the walkway behind the right field wall where they were doing some steel work on the "roof" / covering (which is more decorative than anything else). Another part of the crew was working on the bar top seating area. Although it was hard to get close, it looks like they're working hard to get everything sealed up to be able to do work underneath the stadium through the winter months. The frame work looks pretty far along to add the chair backs down the right field line, but they'll probably wait until closer to the end of this phase to install those.

I did notice it looks like they're getting ready to do some of the final brick work on the backside of the stadium and the right field grand entrance. They've also put in a decent amount of stone to match the ticket booth entrance--it looks good but reminds me a little too much of the stone from southwest Virginia (although our color is more browns and tans).

One note that some folks will not be happy about. In order to expand the parking lot, they have built a retaining wall that parallels the train tracks. This will probably prevent people from climbing that hill when using those parking lots. IMO this is a good thing as I saw someone almost get hit by a train several years ago.

The RMC guys said that he understands the overall $18M project is going to occur in 3 phases and that this work is just phase 1. Underneath work (pitching lab I assume) will probably be in the next phase. Not sure what phase 3 would be.

Overall, while it's still early, there's enough work done that you can tell the place is going to be fantastic!
