Florida is full of people who prey on tourists

and you have to always be on guard at night. Predators/robbers/panthers hang on the cypress trees, eyeing from a distance anyone who looks like an easy target. Since no one has eyes in the back of their head, you should always be with someone, with both of you constantly scanning the berm ditch around you. Do not drop off your wife at the fan boat depot & then go park the car by yourself in the gravel lot, even if it's close-by. Swamps are ideal spots for robbers to surprise you as you walk between the canals. If you cannot be with someone, just pay the extra money for a park ranger. You won't be robbed in a thalweg, but try very hard to avoid being alone or walking alone on the chutes with just your wife and no one else around. Listen to the alligators.
