I don't know - Scott was far and away a better college scorer

..I am not convinced he was a better "NBA prospect," though at the time I thought he would at least have the opportunity to stick in the NBA, which made me more of an optimist than most around here.

I don't think Scott was as good a passer as Wilkins, nor was he as good a screener. And Wilkins is clearly better on the defensive end in virtually all aspects.

The main argument against Scott was that he wasn't well-rounded enough, and that a good 2 point jump-shooter in the NBA is a dime a dozen, and they aren't looking for lead dog scorers.

It turns out that Scott WAS well-rounded enough, and his mid-range game was able to be extended out to the 3 point line and he looks like he will have a fairly long career as a good team player, and a 3/4 who can space the floor and make good decisions on both ends. Not to mention that he was humble enough to accept spot minutes after being a 1st team all-ACC player his senior year. A surprising amount of NBA guys just chuck it up when they enter the game, thinking that they need to show why they deserve to be there, when that actually proves the opposite.

I don't think Wilkins necessarily has an elite skill besides "help defense", although he is a tremendous shot-blocker for his size. There is no question in my mind that he will be a very good defender in the NBA against certain types of players. And again, as long as you can hit on open jumper and are decent handling the ball (catching, passing, dribbling out of trouble, shielding the ball, etc., not necessarily play-making off the dribble) - and Wilkins is decent at handling the ball, setting picks, moving with out the ball, getting in position to rebound, NBA teams can easily hide you on offense. They are not looking for 13 guys who can play-make or score. Every team has like 7-8 glue guys on the active roster to go along with their 5-6 playmakers/scorers.
