Some die hards believe that with a UVA connection--whether former player or recruit--there is some special luster than translates to lacrosse superiority. That is long gone. Time to earn it again. UVA programs that can claim that luster right now are mens basketball (love coach and what he has done and is doing), mens tennis (built and led by a phenomenal coach and let's see if the new guy can keep it going), baseball (again, fantastic coach), and women's soccer (although a few down years, Swanson should get the magic back with some focus). And, those programs have pretty much been without trouble except for the highly-touted transfer recruit in basketball who coach cut ties with immediately once a whiff of trouble surfaced. Lars has a project on his hands. He is cleaning up the culture, and should improve on field performance. It is hard, however, to predict whether and when the program might return to a perennial power. Hopefully, these recruits who Lars inherited understand that they need to perform as well (or better) in the classroom and the community as on the field. Rhoads and Luk showed big time what should be expected. If others get that message, that will be a start. I bristle at the posts that exclaim some kid scored goals in some event and therefore, he's a great addition. With the University supporting the program, the focus needs to be much broader.
