Yes... I have used Beckett Online to value a lot of them...

The issue is how to value the cards... common cards have a "value" but in actuality are worthless. For example.. 1976 Topps.. my oldest collection. The "total value" of every card added up is almost $800. However, you can buy the set for $250. People really only want the "star cards" (George Brett, Several Reds, etc) or "rookies" (Eckersley) or players from favorite team (like Oriole cards - Palmer, Robinson, etc.). Since I am primarily a "set" collector I only use the "complete set" price which is lower.

You now also have "autos", "game used", and parallels. 2003 Victory set has a regular run, a "Green" parallel, Orange, Blue, Purple, and Red. The Jeter card in the regular run is a $.10. in the Blue (650 print run) it is $8. In the red (25 print run) it is "rare" and I have seen for almost $75. I have 3 full sets of green, 2 orange, 1 blue. No purple but 66 cards (or 100) in the red. It may be the only "complete" set in the world if I ever finish it.

So... value of the sets and auto's/gu I have is currently about $90,000. Part of that is the 5 '82 Topps Traded Ripken (3 are "gem mint"). I have 4 '89 Upper Deck sets that card #1 in the set happens to be Griffey, Jr. rookie. Bonds, McGuire, Jeter, Arod rookies galore. When they hit the hall (if they hit the hall) the values go up. I have an autographed XFractor of Trout's rookie that I lucked into in a box (only 25 exist). I have two auto's of Machado and a g/u'd from Bryce Harper. If they continue to excel they go up. You need to luck into those in "series 1" before they take off (look at Judge now).

I do have a "rider" on my insurance and a separate small policy. Turning 50 next year the plan was to start selling them off to put my kids through college. I have two girls that are basketball/soccer and no interest in baseball. I don't have anyone to share them with now that my dad passed (which is why I stopped collecting in 2014.. we enjoyed continuing to do it together) so Ebay will starting seeing some listings in the next few years. My girls are in 9th and 6th.
