I don't think you are ignorant but I do think the bashing of Lee
is very selective and not accounting with the circumstances of the time. And I don't mean you in particular as a large swath of America has taken aim at him, portraying him in the worst possible light after 100 years of portraying him in the best possible light. They were all racists by today's standards. Lee is a huge figure in American and Virginian history. I personally think the holiday is highly political but the statues not so much. I claim that the rationale behind the debunking of Lee as a heroic/honorable/remembered figure would naturally lead one to debunk Westmoreland. And others, and others, as we are imperfect as a nation.
