Question from a guy who is not in that area

Do those variable tolls cause you to pay a higher rate than you expected when you entered the HOT lanes, because they go up even while you're driving in the HOT lane? Or is your toll based on whatever posted rate they had when you entered the HOT lane? How does that work?

I'm thankful to work from home down here in northeastern NC, that's for darn sure. My biggest commuting risks are the occasional lego brick left on the floor by my 6 year old.
