As a senior in high school, Olsen was named first-team all-state and offensive player of the year by the Newark Star-Ledger. He completed 97 passes in 172 attempts for 1,864 yards and 24 touchdowns with only five interceptions as senior. In addition, he earned a spot on the US Army All-American Bowl team.
