Notes: Speed, speed, and more speed is the best way to describe Heyward-Bey. A track star, he has run a hand-timed 10.2 in the 100 meters. He ran a 4.38 in the 40 yard dash during the 2004 Nike Combine in Charlottesville, VA. Heyward-Bey, who plays basketball as well, possesses a 40-inch vertical leap.

As a junior last season, Heyward-Bey had 12 touchdown receptions.

Coach Dominic Damico: "Darrius has only played football since the ninth grade. He's developed every year. He isn't polished, but he has the rare ability of speed and a huge vertical leap. He's a special athlete. Every year he becomes a better route runner and hopefully he'll have an excellent senior season. His physical skills combined with a 6-3 frame make him one of the top receivers in the country."
