Marshall, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia are among the schools that have officially offered 6-2, 215-pound Phoebus (Hampton, VA) linebacker prospect Matt Wright . Virginia Tech is one of the most recent offers for Wright, whose brother D.J. plays football for the Hokies. What did Matt think of the VT offer?

“I knew it was going to happen, but I didn’t know it was going to happen so fast,” Wright said. “When I talked to coach Cavanaugh, he told me how slow the recruiting process was so I didn’t think it would happen so fast. But, when it happened, I was excited about it.”

Wright has taken visits to Virginia and Virginia Tech. What schools does he want to visit this summer?

“Schools I haven’t been to,” Wright said. “I want to go see N.C. State. I’m very interested in them. I’ve been to UNC already, but I’m thinking of making another trip there. I want to take a trip to Maryland because I’ve never been there before. I’m thinking about making another trip up to UVa, but I’m not sure about that yet.”

A visit to Virginia Tech will likely happen, but Wright says it won’t be to check out the campus. “I’m actually going to visit my brother [D.J. Parker], but I don’t know if I’m going to check everything out,” Wright said.

Wright has no timetable in terms of making a decision. He wants to go through the process as much as necessary, until he’s comfortable with his choice.

“I’m going to weigh my options,” Wright said. “I’ve got to visit a lot of schools to see what’s out there. I think after I do that and have everything down, that’s when I’ll make my decision.

“It’s still kind of early. I really haven’t thought about which school I’m going to. I just feel blessed to be able to talk to these different schools. I’m just weighing my options.”

Of the schools that have offered, which out-of-state schools is he interested in?

“Michigan State – I’m very interested in them,” Wright said. “I like West Virginia a lot and I like Maryland.”

How about the in-state programs?

“Well, of course I like Tech,” Wright said. “Tech’s a beautiful campus and a nice school. UVa’s nice, too. I liked the trip up there and the campus is beautiful.”

Are there any favorite schools?

“Favorites?,” Wright said. “I mean, everybody’s still pretty much in an even race. I’m just weighing the options. But, like I said, I’m not
