Lumberton (N.C.) offensive tackle Hutch Eckerson has three official offers – North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech – and there could be a few more in the near future. South Carolina has stated that they will offer, N.C. State said they are planning to offer and Tennessee is showing very heavy interest as well. Notre Dame and Illinois are also involved.

Eckerson hopes to make some unofficial visits before football practice begins in early August, but, if he can only make one trip, there is one school he definitely wants to see.

“I’m trying to get out to Tennessee before August, but I also need to go out to Blacksburg,” Eckerson said. “Virginia Tech has already offered me, so I’m really going to try to get out to Tennessee because they want to see me before they offer me. Getting out there so they can see me is kind of high on my list in case they want to offer me. I also plan on going to Virginia Tech and Virginia before the summer is over.”

If Tennessee comes through with an offer, it would immediately be in good position with the talented prospect.

“If they offered, they’d have to go right up there at the top,” Eckerson said. “I’ve always really liked Tennessee and to play in front of 100,000 fans per home game would be icing on the cake right there. So, if they were to offer me, they would probably go to pretty high on my list.”

Eckerson has not visited Virginia Tech, but has visited the University of Virginia on several occasions. UVa is the number one school right now.

“I went to a game last season and then I went to their elite junior day and had a great time,” Eckerson said. “I really, really like their coaches. They keep in touch with whatever means they can. I get personal letters from them at least twice a week, if not more. They’ve really gotten personal with me and make me kind of feel part of the team already, so that’s why they’re my number one pick right now. But like I’ve said in the past, I’m definitely going to wait until Signing Day to make my decision. When Signing Day comes, I’m going to know exactly which school I want to go to.”

Don’t expect Eckerson to waver in terms of when he will make his decision. He wants to take all five official visits and really go through the process.
