Freshmen Updates: Meet the Team Day

After covering these players before and after they committed to the University of Virginia, it’s interesting to follow up on how they are doing just a few weeks before the season opener. TheSabre.com was able to catch up with this year’s newcomers (including most of the 2005 recruits and transfer Andrew Pearman ) during last week’s Meet the Team/Media Day event and get their thoughts on training camp, college, the season and an assortment of other topics.

Albert commented on…

His first months at the University of Virginia…

“It’s been very exciting, being here. It’s been a learning experience of course. I’ve had to do a lot of things on the run. There’s a lot of learning, but other people on the team have been helping me get through it and everything’s going good right now. College life is going pretty good right now.”

The competition on the college level…

“You have to step your level of game up because everybody’s basically on the same level. You have to work harder than the next guy.”

The freshmen class…

“We’ve got a pretty close knit freshmen class. We just want to come in, work hard and stay together. A lot of spots on our team are being pushed by freshmen. We aren’t trying to come in and take somebody’s spot. We’re just trying to contribute to the team. It’s the whole team concept we’re buying into.”

The Hargrave experience…

“The regimen Hargrave had us on – like everything happening at a certain time – is kind of similar to here. You have to be at class, you have to be at meetings and things like that. Being used to it has helped me out a lot.”

Not having to wake up as early as he did at Hargrave…

“Only on Sundays do you have to wake up early here. I’m glad to be out of that spot (laughs).”
