The 6-6, 230-pound prospect is a key addition for head coach Dave Leitao, who has taken an extremely active role in this recruitment.
“He has signed with UVa,” Brewster Academy head coach Jason Smith said. “I think it was the relationship he developed with Coach Leitao. His interest was immediate after Will de-committed from Connecticut. Last night, Coach Leitao came to our school for the second time to watch practice. I think that meant a lot to Will, that an ACC program would show that much interest and that Coach Leitao thought he would be a big part in helping get the program off the ground.”
Smith commented on what Coach Leitao liked so much about Harris, who played for Maine Central Institute last season.
“I think there are a couple of different things,” Smith said. “His competitiveness and his versatility are two big things. He’s 6-6, 230 pounds, but don’t label him a small forward, power forward, shooting guard or anything. He’s a basketball player. He has the ability to post smaller players and to take wing players and big men on the perimeter. And one thing that really impressed me so far is his ability to shoot.”
Harris becomes the fourth player to commit to UVa and presumably the third to sign this fall period. Solomon Tat , a 6-5, 225-pound guard, plans to sign with Virginia in the spring.
Harris rounds out what looks to be a successful first recruiting class for Coach Leitao.
