G Mustapha Farrakhan , who signed with UVa yesterday, and PF Patrick Patterson each had great official visit experiences at UVa this past weekend. In keeping with the theme, Tomasz Kwiatkowski , a 7-0, 245-pound center recruit out of Lee Academy in Maine, also had a very good official visit experience.
“He really enjoyed it,” Lee Academy Head Coach Carl Parker said. “He liked all the people he met. He felt the coaches were forthright and honest. He felt the coaches sincerely cared about their players. He loved the arena and the campus. He felt real good about the visit.”
Kwiatkowski plans to make at least a few more visits before making a decision.
“It was his first visit,” Parker said. “It was a good measuring stick. He was impressed, but it was his first and only visit. He came away very impressed, though, and I think someone will have to beat them out. He felt UVa could be the place for him, but he wants to take a few more visits to be absolutely sure.”
Besides UVa, Baylor and Rhode Island are the other programs showing heavy interest in Kwiatkowski. Other teams could get involved as the spring signing period approaches, but obviously how Kwiatkowski plays this season will play a role in that.
“We’ve played six games so far,” Parker said. “We’re 6-0. Each game, he seems to grow. But, whenever a group of players play together for the first time, the last piece that seems to come along is the center position. The other players are building confidence in Tomasz. Once they develop a lot of confidence in him, I think Tomasz will just get better and better.”
UVa signed three backcourt players in the early signing period. For the spring, look for the staff to try and add up to two top frontcourt prospects. Huntington’s (W.V.) Patrick Patterson, Hargrave’s Mike Scott and, perhaps, Kwiatkowski top the list.
