With his junior season almost complete, 6-8, 215-pound forward Ed Davis is starting to concentrate more on his recruiting. In fact, Benedictine’s 5-star prospect is aiming to reduce his list of schools within the next few weeks and possibly as early as next week.
“I think I’m going to narrow my list around next week,” Davis said. “I think I’ll get it to around seven or eight.”
Clemson, Connecticut, Georgetown, Virginia and Virginia Tech are among the programs that have offered Davis. Two of these programs are certain to make the next cut.
“Both [Virginia and Virginia Tech] will make my final seven or whatever,” said Davis, who has taken unofficial visits to both in-state programs.
“Virginia has had a good season. They are bringing in good players and I have a pretty good relationship with their coaches. It’s the same thing with Virginia Tech.”
College coaches have come in full force to Benedictine, but Davis, even with his 5-star ranking status by Rivals.com and Scout.com, has continued to go about his business.
“I really try not to get involved in that stuff,” Davis said. “It doesn’t change the way I act.”
A versatile performer who contributes to his team in a variety of ways, Davis has helped Benedictine to a 27-2 overall record including a Virginia Independent Schools state championship title. The Cadets captured the VIS title earlier this month.
Davis, who was named MVP of the VIS state tournament, scored 35 points in the semifinal contest and had a triple-double in the championship game. In the 51-48 state title victory over Bishop O’Connell, Davis tallied 16 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks.
