5-star junior Ed Davis followed through on his plans of a few weeks ago and has narrowed his list of schools to eight. The 6-8, 210-pound Benedictine (Richmond, VA) forward lists his top eight programs, names two current favorites and discusses when he plans to make his next cut.
“UVa, Virginia Tech, UNC, Clemson, Connecticut, Georgetown, Michigan State and Louisville,” replied Davis when asked which teams made his first cut. From these eight schools, UNC is the only program that has not offered a scholarship according to Davis.
Of the eight finalists, two currently stand out above the others.
“UVa and U-Conn,” replied Davis when asked if he had any favorites among his eight finalists. Davis feels that UVa is recruiting him the hardest of any school.
“I just like the coaching staffs and my position I would play at these schools.”
Davis’ next cut is likely to come in late May/early June.
“As soon as I get out of school, I’ll try to get it down to five,” Davis said.
Basketball-wise, Davis recently concluded his first season at Benedictine. He averaged 18.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.4 blocks per game this season, earning Richmond Times-Dispatch all-metro co-Player of the Year honors.
Davis performed very well in the state playoffs, leading Benedictine (29-3) to a VIS state championship. Turning in several outstanding performances (35 points in the semifinals and a triple double in the championship game), he was named MVP for his performance in the state tournament.
Davis will now play AAU basketball for Boo Williams.
