Connecticut is not traditionally a major stomping ground for UVa football recruiting, but the Cavs have landed a commitment from one of the state’s best rising senior prospects. 6-0, 190-pound RB/DB Torrey Mack , a star out of Stratford High School, pledged to the ‘Hoos yesterday.

Mack certainly had his share of Division 1A options, choosing Virginia over scholarship offers from Boston College, Connecticut, Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers. A February 24th unofficial visit to UVa (for another junior day) sparked his interest, so making a verbal commitment this weekend was a distinct possibility.

“I kind of made my mind up back in February,” Mack said. “I felt comfortable then. I liked how the players talked to me. They told me how their experiences were at Virginia and how Coach Groh has made them feel.”
