Though UVa received some bad news yesterday when 6-9 forward Miles Plumlee committed to Stanford, there remain some outstanding prospects with which the Cavs remain in serious contention. This NBPA report addresses UVa’s standing with G John Brandenburg , among others.

Sylven Landesberg

Landesberg, a 6-5 guard out of Holy Cross High School (Queens, N.Y.), is in Charlottesville for the first time. He arrived Thursday morning and played well despite an illness, showing the game that has made him one of the top swingmen in the country. Landesberg is a smooth wing with good ball-handling ability, a nice looking outside shot and good savvy for the game.

“There are a lot of good players out here. There is a lot of competition,” said Landesberg, who was absent for Friday’s early game. “When I first walked in I had the jitters, but everything wore off as I played on.”

Landesberg lists eight schools at the top of his list right now and UVa is one of those schools. He still plans to take his time with a decision and does not plan to sign until next spring.

“I guess you could say I’ve got a list now,” Landesberg said. “There is Texas, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, St. John’s and Rutgers. And Kentucky’s on there, too.”

Head coach Dave Leitao has been a big part of this recruitment.

“I like Virginia a lot,” Landesberg said. “They’re really high on my list. I talk to Coach Leitao a lot. I like him and he is a pretty good guy.”

Landesberg seemed excited about the John Paul Jones arena.

“It would be a nice play to play at. It is really big,” Landesberg said with a smile on his face.
